restaurant review : Tiffin Box etc in Inorbit mall, Bengaluru city (INDIA) - Ep #104 - by BangaloreBengaluru

Here it is guys, the most awaited post. All have been asking for it after I posted a few pictures of this online, I guess it also has something to with the launch as it was also all over the social media world :-).

About  the restaurant
This restaurant serves Awadhi, Gujarati, Hyderbadi, Marwari, Maharastrian, Punjabi, Rajasthani and Sindhi cuisine. Both include veg as well as non – veg dishes.
Other than their A la carte they also serve a buffet which comes to about 350Rs plus taxes and their famous Tiffin box meals which is something that all are talking about.
Let me explain to you this concept. The Tiffin box food will be served in an actually traditional tiffin box.
They have 5 different meals to order from and they are called as
1. Delhi tiffin box - contains paneer or murg makhani as main dish
2. Kolkata tiffin box – contains veg curry or kosho mongsho chicken or mutton
3. Mumbai tiffin box – contains sabj or chicken or mutton kolhapuri
4. Bengaluru tiffin box – contains diwani handi or chicken or mutton chettinadu and
5. Birmingham tiffin box – contains birmingham balti chicken

Each meal consists of food from that particular region, It has enough portions for 2. Every tiffin box also comes with rice, chapatti, yellow dal and gulab jamun.

This is how it will be served as.

If you want, the chef will also prepare the meals jain style.

For the interiors of the place they have tried to use whatever India makes or is known for. Like the tradition tiffin boxes, milk can, etc where use as light fixtures instead of the usual bulb holders.
And theirs walls are filled with character scenes each telling its own story.

Mr Sumit Sharma [General Manager] and Ema Trinidad were gracious enough to take time out and explain everything :-).

I was suggested to try out their buffet and while I was waiting for others to arrive, Sumit suggested us to try a drink which is very popular in Kerala and is called as Pathimugam. Its an ayurvedic drink that helps in digestion,
and much more.  The moment I looked at it, it just reminded me of the Kokum drink one gets in GOA. Well it just looked like it but tastes totally different for instance this drink was served warm.

The buffet table looked really good. All the food was placed and the timers where set so that nothing gets cold. And even the food labels had those dots to indicate if the food is veg or non veg. Now that’s some of the basic services that I look for.

Extra care is taken in presentation. Now will you just take a look at that.

During my chat with Ema I did share with here on how I eat, she thought I was joking but when she saw me plate my food. She gave out a laugh :D. You see its traditionally eaten in a pattern, I personally don’t know how it started and all. One starts with a soup then heads over to the starter, main course and lastly the dessert. As for me I just head on over to the starter and then go to the dessert :). And then just a bit of main course.

I tried the papadi chaat, peanut  vada, blueberry cake, hyderabadi paneer biryani (which I double checked the name tag to see if it’s a green dot or not cause this is mainly a non veg dish) and some palak gravy  as I can never have any kind of rice without some side dish.
I was very eager to try out the peanut vada and I have to tell you this it was really good. It’s something that I have never had before.

The chaat was also really well done, most of the time its just loaded with too much chaat masala. It had extra potatoes which is always a thumbs up in my book :D.

The curd bonda was not hitting the spot for me for some reason. Not that it was not well done, it was.

The dessert was very mild and not over the top sweet and was just melting in my mouth. I did not have to chew it at all :).

Tasting a vegetarian version of a biryani in restaurant I always get disappointed as the flavor is not even remotely close to the non vegetarian style. But here it was so close and tasted not bad at all. I was happy to see that they did not skimp out on the fried onion which is one of the main visual ingredients of a biryani.

And both the side dishes where blended well with the right amount of spices.

Ended the buffet by having the butterscotch ice-cream. It was butterscotch. For all the chocolate lovers out there you have to try this one and you will not be disappointed :D.

Headed on to try the famous Tiffin Box meals.

In short the experience was amazing and this was mainly because the food I ate was really good. A must place to try out especially if you are someone who is not that much into spicy food and prefer less oil.

  3. Lunch at Inorbit Mall out let of Tiffin Box, Whitefield, Bangalore. 29th Sep, 2015
Be aware-worst non veg tasted! I would never go back again!
Lunch order - Chicken Lassooni kalimirch kabab, Chicken Kolhapuri, Tandori roti!
    1. Chicken Lassooni kalimirch kabab - Served name shake "warm", no flavors of garlic n pepper. Waiter while serving takes away the salad along with kabab while talking to other customer.
    2. Chicken Kolhapuri (nation wide dish which can never go wrong with taste) - It was sweet with only tomato based curry! While ordering waiter had confirmed it as semi spicy (he should have warned its sweet!)
    3. Tandoori roti - Size of it is almost similar to cup-dish of your Tea set! Highly disappointing!

Manager: He said sorry as we did not like the food and we asked for "Chef". He proudly says "during buffet lunch, we do not serve ala cart menu, we obliged as you have ordered"

Why this warning not given while order being placed?
Tiffin Box - A SHAME to its name in regards to its taste and service! Consumers - BE AWARE BEFORE STEPPING IN FOR NORTH INDIAN TASTE - IT IS A TOTAL DISASTER!!!!! SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSE WHERE THAN TIFFIN BOX!!

  4. Beware! They will extort money even if you don't want their food.
Placed order over phone around 1 PM. Waited for 1 Hour 20 Mins. did not reach. Told him to cancel. Then they kept calling and wanted to collect payment. Now mind it the food which was to be delivered was still there with them and that cold, 3 hours old food, they tried to sell again at 4 PM. I refused to have the food still.
But I caved in with their extortion mechanism and repeated calls and I had to pay the money. So I ended up paying them 400 rupees for a food I didn't want to have. I will raise a complaint against them on consumer forum. But that's different story.

What fears me more is that if they are trying to sell a 3 hours old food, I do not know what they are feeding to the customers who are there. Well sincerely, stay away from them, you have been warned.
