movie review : Gravity

Cast:
Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone who is a a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission
George Clooney plays Matt Kowalsky who is a veteran astronaut

Director: Alfonso Cuarón

Those who have not seen the trailer, check out the video below.

The plot:
Dr. Ryan Stone is a Mission Specialist who is a very brilliant medical engineer and is on her very first shuttle mission to attach a high-tech new scanning device to the Hubble telescope on the Space Shuttle Explorer after going through a six months special Nasa training. Accompanied by veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski, who is commanding his final expedition.

During their spacewalk to service the Hubble Space Telescope they get info from Mission Control that a Russian missile was used to  strike a satellite and that it has caused a continuous chain reaction of cloud space debris. Of-course Mission control orders that the mission be aborted, the shuttle gets destroyed by debris.
Dr. Stone gets detached from the shuttle and starts to wander further into space. She starts to panic, making her use up more oxygen in her tank. Very soon Kowalsky finds her and they make their way back to the space shuttle, now Dr. Stone and Kowalsky are completely alone and they are tethered to nothing but each other.

They have lost contact with Earth and with it any chance for a rescue mission. Still the astronauts continue to transmit, hoping that the
Mission Control can still hear them.

Their only way home is to go further out into the terrifying space and reach the Chinese shuttle and use their escape pod to reach home..

My review:
The majority part of the film is about just two astronauts now would think it will be a drab but it has been done extremely well..
Something else I liked was even though it is a space movie it's not a si-fi nor future kind of plot..
The main story is sooo simple, what will happen to a first time astronaut when they get detached from the space craft and end up being the only survivor..
Extraordinary visuals making it seem so life like..
Must watch movie for anyone who loves or does not love space, time just flew by seeing this movie..

I stuff that I loved :
Dialogue's
I need you to stop staring and tethered
I crashed the simulator every single time

Scene's
Movie has sub titles
When she removes her space suit and just floats with tears just floating away from her face
During the fire the flames are floating
Uses fire extinguisher to reach the Chinese shuttle
Not able to the buttons as they are in chinese so Sandra does eenie meenie mini moe to pick a button
When the capsule enters the Earth, its engulfed if flames

movie review : The Conjuring

My spoiler-filled review :

cast..
Ed Warren - Patrick Wilson
Lorraine Warren - Vera Farmiga
Roger Perron - Ron Livingston
Carolyn Perron - Lili Taylor

Director - James Wan (gives a modern horror style to his movies)

The story goes like this..
The opening scene is set in 1970's, some people are talking about a possessed doll and seeking help from paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, the investigators are very qualified in their field, they are devoted Catholics and a bit romantic in nature as they believe they are together for a reason which is paranormal.

The investigators have a shrine in their house which stores all the artifacts that were connected to the paranormal that they acquired during their work and a priest blesses the room once a month to make sure that the evil spirits stay intact. They travel to different locations educating people by giving seminars and conducting investigations in different places..

Far off is a secluded farmhouse in an isolated area in Rhode Island, the Perron family along with their dog move into a house which they acquired from a bank sale. The family comprising of 5 girls are in full energy setting up the place. Right away strange events begin to happen to them starting with The dog refusing to enter the house and is found dead by the youngest daughter later the next day with reasons not shown. All the clock stop working at 3:07am. Mrs Perron wakes up with bruises on her body and thinks it because of iron deficiency. Then they start to show more intense paranormal events like the kids feet getting pulled while they are asleep, photo frames falling from where they are hung, etc..

While playing a game called "hide and clap" the mother comes in contact with a spirit. During the night while figuring out the sounds she gets locked up in the basement along with the spirit and during this part her oldest daughter is attacked by the ghost. As the days passed on the attacks become increasingly violent and physical. They presumed the house was haunted and seek the investigators help.

From investigators the Perrons realize that the house was not but they themself's are the victims. The dark spirits had latched itself onto them. The investigators try to figure out what the spirit wants and helps the family putting themselves at harm.

My review:
This movie's main marketing is that its a real life story. Don't know if its a marketing trick or not but after you see
'The Conjuring' you will have a sleepless night or two.

Must watch it at least once in the theater to get the full effect of the sound.

I stuff that I loved :
Starting only it shows that this is a horror based movie, no long suspense
Shows that the dog refuses to enter the house which has the spirit
When asleep the kids leg is pulled almost every night
When the mother gets locked in the basement by a spirit
no demon voice was used during the exorcism (it's old school) of the character, she was covered up with a sheet and tied up to a chair
Cast played by the Warren and Perron family was very natural and not over board
Soundtrack of the movie called " She saw something"

movie review : Brave

My spoiler-filled review :
For those of you who have just seen the posters of BRAVE (actually wanted to name it as "The Bear and the Bow"), you will see a girl will unruly red-hair.
Well the story revolves around here..

The story goes like this..

The story takes place in the time of kings and queens, well you get the scene. In one such Scottish kingdom their was a princess named Merida (played by Kelly Macdonald), her mother Queen Elinor (played by Emma Thompson) was this really poised lady who was perfect in ever way. She tried her best to make her daughter follow in her steps and make her a perfect bride for anyone who seeks her hand. But, Merida saw things differently. She wanted to be free from practicing proper etiquette, in short was a complete tom boy and wants to carve her own path. She becomes drawn to the bow and becomes an excellent marks man. As time went by, she became a sister
to triplet brothers. Her father, King Fergus (played by Billy Connolly) was a warrior like all. He in particular was known to kill bears, he lost part of his leg in a bear fight.
From that day on he swore to kill the bear that did it.

Finally the day came and they got suitors for her, three leaders in the kingdom where made to battle for her hand. As custom they had to all play a game chosen by the princess and the person who wins will win the hand of Merida. As Merida loves archery she choose that. On the day of the event she was dressed up like her mother wishes and she could hardly breath in that dress. The queen starts of the ceremony saying about the tradition, in which she mentions that only the first born can take part. Hearing this the princess eyes lit up. The match started, and what a shame it was as all the contestant did not give a good outcome. Then the princess stepped up saying that she is battling for her own hand and aims all the markers to the bullseye even though her mother was warning her to stop. The mother gets very upset that her daughter defies an age old custom followed for generations in front of everyone.
Well the next part is not a mystery, the mother and daughter end up in a fight. The argument gets heated up making the mother throw the bow into the flames. Seeing the act Merida storms out of the palace riding deep into the forest. Finally she is greeted by the "wisps" (magical beings which when followed will lead you to your destiny)
who lead her to an house. She finds an old lady who is busy with her carpentry work, as she was looking around seeing all the wood work she stumbled upon a broom that was sweeping by itself and a crow which talked. She then realizes that the old lady is a Witch (played byJulie Walters). Merida asks that the witch casts a spell that would change her mother. The witch then gives Merida a cake. Merida returns to the palace and gives the cake to her mother. Upon consuming a bit of the cake all hell breaks loose as the mother turns into a bear. She realizes that she was granted an ill-fated wish which makes her use all her will and power along with the help of her mischievous triplet brothers—to undo the beastly curse. Upon completing the task she showcased her bravery.

According to me:
It's finally done, "Brave" is the first Disney/Pixar to center on a female. Seeing only male heroes most of the time it was refreshing seeing this take.

I stuff that I loved : accents
                                 movie’s presentation
                                 Scottish-style music
character depth that is presented between Merida and Elinor
the hair effects alone are incredible

However I feel the movie lacked the cartoon feel it ended up being too mature. Even though I liked the other movies such as UP and WALL-E which are also on the mature stand, it had the cartoon feel to it. Somehow the movie Brave wound up being less underwhelming. Although the kids will surely like it.

movie review : The Avengers

First and foremost I would like to say this that you don't need to be a follower of the characters to understand this movie.. Many are under the thought that since they do not know the characters that they don't want to watch the film...

I raced to Forum and reached just in time the catch the movie :).. As a comic book reader I have been waiting for this movie to be made for a very, very long time..

My spoiler-filled review :
After making the characters do solo movies Marvel comics has finally made them to reunite and I have to say the result was not at all a disappointment..

The story goes like this..
Loki (villain from the past + a demi god + adopted + brother of Thor) has made a deal with a shadowy figure (stay after the credits to find out who) who gives Loki an army of Chituari (they seems to be some knid of robots) invaders to conquer Earth in exchange for the Tesseract (cosmic cube shown in the Captain America movie)..

Loki reaches Earth, steals the tesseract, and turns several SHIELD agents (sort of club formed by Iron Man and others to unite heroes) including Hawkeye and Dr. Selvig into his slaves..
Nowhere to turn, Nick Fury (SHIELD head) is forced to activate the Avengers club bringing in  Captain America (frozen for 70 years, living in the modern world), Iron Man (brainy + has loads of money + makes his own robot), Thor (the God of Thunder), Hulk (inherits the gene problem from his crazy scientist father who used to test on himself), Black Widow (has fighting skills + very beautiful) , etc to stop Loki before he unleashes his wrath on Earth..

Phew... Lots of characters right, when I saw the promos I was like its going to screw up.. But then I noticed that Joss Whedon was in charge of the scrip and direction.. If you are familiar with his work you will know that he makes sure that each character has their own space and moments to shine :)..

Robert Downey Jr. according to me is obviously born to play Iron Man, you will to if you have seen the Iron Man movie..
Chris Evans is totally believable as the leader of the team if you know his work...
Chris Hemsworth brings a godly behavior to the role of Thor (man what a deep voice)..
Mark Ruffalo ends up being the shining star of this movie. Stealing every scene he is in, he gives a nerdy and calm performance as Bruce Banner and a gleeful performance as the Hulk, outdoing any actor who has portrayed Banner on the big screen..

Scarlet (Black Widow) gives a much better show than her work in Iron Man2 and as usual looks perfect in ever scene..
Tom Hiddleston (villain role) palys his part as the is as menacing being he needs to be..

In the starting of the movie the characters did not get along but as the movie  progressed they were pals.. I know, I know not a shocking ending :).. It was nice to see that even heroes have egos which usually is not show and they will be portrayed as perfect.. Also it was a nice change to see the heroes getting belted by one another than the usual from just the villains..

Some dialogue's and scenes that I liked:

How Black Widow fights even though she is tied up to a chair..

The way Cap flings the punching bag..

Potts way of trading the files to Iron man cause he does not touch anything..

Thor tells everyone to pipe down and not say nasty stuff about his.. Black widow point the fact that he killed so many.. Then Thor is like "he's adopted" (this scene received a few laughs)..

Cap gives the cops his orders and the cop is like why should I take orders from you, the following scene is then good..

Cap telling hulk "smash" and then Hulk gives a grin..

Hulk interrupts Loki's dialogue and smashes the crap out of him, a demi god... (I was like yeaaaa, which received an applause from the audience, all were clapping so hard)..

Ever one thinks that Iron man dies but next part was awesome..

NOTE: One scene is shown during the credits and one after, don't miss it guys (you hear me comic book fans!!)
